Sheet metal is a flat-rolled product that comes from coil. Sheets generally refer to material under 3/16” thick and is generally measured by gauge.
Plate is similar to sheet except that in addition to coming from coil can originate as larger flat plate. Plate refers to material 3/16” thick and up and is measured in inches and fractions of an inch.
Also known as checker or diamond plates, they are similar to sheet or plate with a raised, diamond-shaped patterns on one side and a flat surface on the other. The pattern is designed to increase traction.
